On March 21st, 2026, the young EcoGuardians from Los Alcázares participated in a route through the Mar Menor Basin. During this activity, they had the chance to better understand the local environment and come up with nature-based solutions to protect and care for the Mar Menor. It was a day of learning and reflection on how to improve the situation of the sea and its surroundings.
The route took the participants through key locations affected by human activity and pollution. Along the way, the EcoGuardians identified areas where nature-based solutions, such as sustainable farming and wetland restoration, could help preserve the ecosystem. This activity sparked creativity and deepened the commitment to environmental conservation.
On Friday, March 27th, the young participants presented their innovative ideas and solutions at an event in Los Alcázares. Each participant showcased their projects for restoring and preserving the local ecosystem. To motivate the youth, a prize was awarded to the best proposal. The event served as a platform for young leaders to share their visions and inspire others to take action in their own communities.
The Hackathon activities organized by each project partner are an important part of the EcoGuardians project, which aims to empower young people to become leaders of change and defenders of their environment. This initiative brings young people together to find practical and sustainable solutions for protecting the environment, fostering collaboration, and enhancing their leadership skills for future environmental challenges.
